About the residence:Our house is and older style renovated home with a separate extension with bedroom, bathroom and living space. We live 10 min drive from Bega with the last three being on a dirt road along a senic wetland area. We live on seven hectares of uncleared native bushland and don't have any close neighbors the closest being 200m away. We have lots of resident native animals including Wallabies, Kangaroos, Wombats, Echidnas, Goannas and enormous number of birds. The property is on tank water only, however we have good size water tanks. The house is not air conditionined as it is not needed in our climate. The heating of the house and hotwater is through a wood stove cooker that we use from May until about mid September most years. We have an orchard that is mostly stone fruit from Jan to Mar and apples and pears from Feb to May so this should not need attention. We also have citris trees that would be productive during the exchange half of the year. We do have a large garden and grow a lot of our own vegetables however this can be mulched and left alone if this is preferred. The house has large windows that look out to the wetland and surrounding bush.
About the city:The Bega Valley is one of the most beautiful unspoiled and undeveloped regions in Australia. It is half way along the coast between the two major cities in Australia of Sydney and Melbourne. It is seven hours drive or approx one and a half hours flight to either. Australia's capital Canberra is two and a half hours drive. Merimbula 20min drive to the south is a seaside holiday town of normally 8000 people and Tathra is the closest town to the coast about 10 min drive. Bega is a regional centre of 8500 people with all the facilities you could need. The Bega Valley is famous for being dairy country. The Bega Valley attracts many artists to live and work in the region as it is has a very beautiful landscape and relaxed, unhurried lifestyle.
Nearby activities:The main attraction of the region is the wilderness of the mostly empty beaches, forests and waterways to explore. There is always an art exhibition on in one of the many galleries and every other week great live music. The people who are attached to the Mumbulla Schoo have often moved from another part of the country to have their children attend the school as it has a great reputation.
